Fuck Yeah [Aug. 27th, 2008|12:45 pm]
So, I was feeling better and that rocked. Then I ate pizza and sugar free ice cream and I spent the night awake with stomach pain and that sucked. Then I spent my sick day putzing on teh interweb and found out Kevin fucking Smith is doing a Q&A in Hartford and that rocked. Then my friends were awesome and got back to me quickly enough that we got orchestra seats and I'm totally fucking stoked now. However, I'm hopped up on Vicadin and will not be able to attend previously made plans for BBQ at Redbones, and that sucks. On the flipside, I'm gonna go get my nerd on because I just heard the mailman and that means I get to watch the first season of Teen Titans.

hmmmm..... [Aug. 19th, 2008|06:02 pm]
i'm head over heels in love (twice). the first is obviously my wife, but the second is grant morrison. i keep reading more and more of his stuff and am just blown away. the problem is i'm broke and to read his graphic novels (the ones [info]thebiggestroom doesn't buy and lend me are like 20-30 dollars for half an hour's reading pleasure. Additionally, the Brighton library sucks ass and has been douchetastic about acquiring graphic novels from the other branches for me. Grrrrrr.......

Update [Jul. 21st, 2008|09:02 am]
Here is an update on some things that have made me happy lately. I know I've been a bad poster and have just been snooping on everyone else's journals.

1) The Dark Knight. Fucking awesome. Exciting and came so close to being my favorite movie if not for a small handful of flaws. I am very excited by the third one.

2) Speculation for a Dark Knight sequel. While Chris Nolan (the director) has said he has not even thought of a third one, I read on today that David Tennant has expressed interest in being the Riddler for a third movie. Personally I'd love to see them do Bane and end the trilogy with "The Breaking of the Bat". What villains do other people want to see?

3) Only a two day work week. Why I am dreading the hectic traveling and am heartbroken I am missing Comic Con, I am totally psyched for an awesome wedding and half of Comic Con and going to Vegas in the next week or so.

4) Mad Men did a marathon yesterday and thanks to the wonders of Tivo I have it recorded and plan to watch it over the next couple of days. I am totally excited.

5) Penny arcade had an amazing comic for anyone who used to play WoW or is a little angry with themselves for having played it.

6) Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog was amazing. I'd link to it, but it was taken down last night. you can grab it on itunes for like pez dollars though. It was hysterical and well-written. i can't wait to rewatch it with Joss and company at Comic Con.

7) That I never have to watch Southland Tales again. Can anyone tell me what the fuck was going on in that movie?

8) 1st place Mets!

good week [Jun. 12th, 2008|11:56 am]
this week started out awful. sunday and monday were atrociously bad, but amazingly this week has really turned around.

Tuesday was my friend Evan's birthday and we went to my new favorite restaurant (Firefly's in Braintree). The service was terrible, and a member of our party actually had to get into a debate with the waiter about why our tip was so week. Answer, no refills for entire table and he disappeared for over an hour. Despite the terrible service, I feel their ribs and fried chicken are by far the best around here.

Wednesday- Despite a busy work day, it ruled because Dan surprised me with an invite for tennis after work and getting off my ass for a change was a really nice change of pace. Additionally, we got burritos afterward and that's just awesome. So my dinner was a burrito while catching up on BSG.

Additionally, I learned that I will be buying a toaster at Comic Con that burns the face of a Cylon into my toast. That's just great.

Also, Katy found a new condo building in Braintree that has us really excited. I think it looks awesome. The only problem is that we're hurting hard for money. She's working now, but we haven't seen any paychecks yet. If she can get going at her new job, and I keep up my 80% win rate on sports betting (Celtics have already won me a bunch of money this week, and I'm taking them getting ten points in tonights game), I'm beginning to think we can really do it.

I've also fallen in love with Dexter this week. It is fucking psychologically fascinating. My mind works overtime and is so satisfied watching that show. Thank you Netflix.com for making it easy to sit on my ass and escape from reality.

Tonight I have a ticket to the Sox game, and am looking forward to watching the Celtics game afterwards.

Tomorrow I get to watch Hulk smash.

Sat is a movie marathon at my friends' house. I need to pick my movie for it. My fallback option is the new Rambo, but I'm hoping I'm struck by inspiration. I mean how often do you get to force your friends to watch any movie you like?

woot coinstar [May. 20th, 2008|03:42 pm]
ran around doing a bunch of errands since work was a bit light today. finally got a Fast Lane transponder for my cars and took my change to Coinstar. Woot! 143 dollar shopping spree to Amazon.com.

I'm thinking of getting some new graphic novels and books. Any recommendations?

Sunday morning [May. 18th, 2008|10:43 am]
Today is my final day in New York. I'll be heading back this evening. It's going to be very hard. I'm worried about her and her mom and know they still need me here. I'm returning to work tomorrow which ought to be a real bitch.

Katy's staying with her mom for another week or so and I think that's when she's really going to be upset because her parents' house is not the most pleasant of places to be withou a big grumbly Pat around to cheer her up.

Anyway, now to distract myself from reality with sci-fi and comics.
The trailer for Dollhouse looks awesome, and Joss Whedon's new show is the one I am most excited for in the fall.

I started reading Grant Morrison's Animal Man and really dig it. He works in the animal activism in an enjoyable way and his writing is very clever. The Coyote Gospel was one of the best one-shot stories I have ever read.

Additionally, I took Katy to see Prince Caspian last night and it was awesome. I thouhgt I liked the first Narnia movie, but this made that look like a piece of crap. It was someone read Narnia and was like this is cool, but there hasn't been a LOTR movie in awhile, so let's make this one way more epic and fill in the LOTR gap, and they did it well. Also, WTF?! Susan got really hot. She didn't even have boobs int he first one, now she's wicked hot.

Today... [May. 6th, 2008|04:15 pm]
Beautiful day outside and I got to do most of my work outside, and I think the weather put my clients in a good frame of mind and our talks were productive.

On my way to one of my client's homes, I'm cruising down 93 south in the fast lane. I'm mildly speeding and pretty oblivious. Suddenly I see blue flashing lights in my rear view mirror. Oh shit. I'm all the way in the left lane and there is no place to pull over, so I work my way to the right. I get one lane over and the state trooper's lights go off and he blazes around me. Phew. he didn't care that I was speeding, he just wanted to speed more than I was allowing him to.

It sounds like I may be quitting WoW as my friends sort of ditched me and that game isn't nearly fun enough to play by myself.

Also, I got a phone call from my close friend DJ and his fiancee got a scholarship at BC Law and they are officially moving to Boston in August. That kind of makes my life better. I love hanging out with DJ, and he is one of my oldest and dearest friends. Yay.

I've been using "the secret" more and one of the things I am trying ot train my brain is to believe that money comes freely and is plentiful, and have been demonstrating that by buying some more things. I purchased a bunch of graphic novels last night and am trying to find some new series' to get into. If anyone has any recommendations let me know. Last night I bought Earth-2, Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn and E is for Extinction. All were highly rated and might start a new kick for me.

great weekend [Apr. 28th, 2008|09:52 am]
i think now that the weather is starting to turn and some of my friends are backing off from WoW a bit social life is just getting better. i mean, i went out thursday, friday, saturday, sunday and I have tickets to Eddie Izzard tonight.

Last night was pretty amazing. MC Frontalot headlined a party at Mantra with free food and an open bar. I was about 2 feet from him during his performance and talked with him and the director of Nerdcore Rising for awhile and wound up hugging her (the director) and giving him a big high five and getting their autographs.

Chris and I were trying to figure out what "the thing" we get into this summer is. We all did D&D for awhile and that fizzled. There should be something other than going to the movies my friends and I do together. I liked the idea of BBQing more, but I don't see that happeneing. Any ideas?

Epic day [Apr. 26th, 2008|02:46 am]
woke up early for work. did the boring work thing.

then took ben to Rhode Island to get his couch from his mom's thus earning me major karma with the universe and enjoying a nice home-cooked meal by his mom and enjoying hanging out. went back to his place and had a couple of beers.

then off to the Boston Film Festival for the second night in a row. Saw Nerdcore Rising which was amazing with MC Frontalot and the Director there.

However, the part of the day that made it tremendous is that immediately before the movie began [info]thebiggestroom ran into MC Frontalot humming Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up while walking into the woman's bathroom. That's right. He rick-rolled that sum'bitch.

Awesome.

Wtf?! [Mar. 25th, 2008|10:05 am]
So Katy and I are sound asleep in the wee hours last night, and we both wake up in the middle of vivid dreams at the same time due to hearing a phantom kitten meowing in our ears. We don't have any cats, and live on the second floor. Wtf?! It was so real I even took a brief look around to make certain there were no kittens in the house. If there were, they were ninjas.

this has been the week from hell [Mar. 10th, 2008|10:30 am]
but the great thing about hitting bottom, is there's only one way left to go.

in brief, my house was temporarily condemned last week
my parents went to a food pantry for help instead of asking me for money
my wife's still sick
i travelled to ny via bus to get her which took 11 hours
father-in-law is still in hospital
and i kinda hate life at the moment.

k. thanx.

great morning [Mar. 3rd, 2008|10:20 am]
i had a really important call from a psychiatrist coming in and I needed to get showered and dressed so I brought the phone in the bathroom and set it to the loudest setting. this is volume 8 plus vibrate. i hear the phone, come dripping out of the shower in time to watch my phone fall into the toilet. i get two sentences in on the phone call and the phone dies and won't work correctly yet. i think it'll probably dry out.

also, karaoke was awesome this weekend. katy needs to get better soon. casey affleck is getting really good (i've watched gone baby gone and the assassination of jesse james in the last week and was really impressed by his performance in both). Is it baseball season yet?

World Champs [Feb. 5th, 2008|09:31 am]
I root for the underdogs. I like the team that doesn't have a chance. That's why growing up in a two team city, I consistently chose the team that sucked. As a result, I haven't been able to celebrate a championship since I was ten. Sunday's super bowl reminded me what I love about sports. not only did my team win, but it was one of the greatest games I've ever seen. In an event that's become overrun with corporate greed and hype, and was just two teams giving their all and it was about the football. Two teams can't play a closer game and both teams deserved to win with their performance. I haven't been that genuinely excited about anything in a very long time. David Tyree's catch in the fourth is one of my fondest memories, and Plaxico Burress's TD with 39 seconds left is up there as well. I phone my father with ten seconds left in the game so I can hear his reaction to the Giants winning the super bowl. My teams have won 8 championships in my life, and this was the first one we couldn't be in the same room together, and the first in 17 years. It was a special moment.
Sorry Pats fans, but the Giants just played on a level no one expected. It's been great listening to sports talk all week and hearing how the refs should have called the game differently, or the Giants wouldn't have won if the Patriots came down with a couple of interceptions they were close to. It's particularly satisfying because these are the guys I heard predict 41-7 patriots, and I heard laugh about the Giants defense. That defense led the NFL in sacks. They can pressure a quarterback and that's what they did. Tom Brady is probably the best player on the planet, but he doesn't enjoy being hit in the face by 300 pound lineman, and that's what the Giants did to him on nearly every play. Honestly, he was amazing to complete as many as he did and showed balls of steel in doing so. Hopefully with my mets signing Johan Santana this week, New York can become the new Boston and I'll get to celebrate two championships this year.

pop culture [Jan. 29th, 2008|11:10 am]
if your not reading pop candy, you should be.

http://blogs.usatoday.com/popcandy/

My favorites today were an interview about the Y: The Last Man movie, which now appears to be a trilogy!

Also, Michael Showalter discusses The State (the funniest show of all time) and says they've recorded everything for DVDs, but MTV is waiting on releasing them.

Bits and pieces [Jan. 27th, 2008|03:29 pm]
Never thought I'd put the words awesome and Hitler together, but this video made me amend that.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=5c-frhpLa-k

Also, does anyone know the name of that song?

DJ came to visit which was awesome. We basically played a shitload of Settlers of Catan which is a great game that I am terrible at. I wish I could hang out with DJ more often.

Kristina's party was last night. it was rather small, but I was feeling terrible and it was kind of what I needed. Ed wound up being sick too, so I'm glad we didn't go out drinking as originally planned with some guy friends.

Also, driving DJ to the airport this morning in the snow was terrible. I'm seriously debating moving to San Diego in like 10 years. I'm getting sick of this snow.

post x-mas [Dec. 31st, 2007|10:14 am]
x-mas was good. weird, but good. i'm worried about some health issues in the family, but it was good to spend time with them. i really feel coming back before new years this year was the right call for me though. new york is just not my home any more and when i spend more than a few days there i suffer for it.

on my way back, i stopped at my sister's house. i'm trying to become closer with her and her children and that's going better than i could have expected. that part of the family is so warm. they showed me a photo album of relatives from my biological dad's side, and every person they showed had descriptions like, "they're and awful human being" or "they're a terrible greedy scum bag". It's weird. Also, my half brother Michael was there who I hadn't seen in 9 or 10 years because he's lived in Alaska and now Ohio for work.

katy got me new board games and lots of books, so that's a win in my book.

also, i've been playing way too much WoW because I'm too sick to do much else and I haven't slept well this week.

furthermore, this one day work thing sucks. no one wants to work today. i don't like it. however, there's an awesome party awaiting me tonight so that rules.

thanks [info]kungfupolarbear for giving me something to look forward to.

good weekend [Dec. 16th, 2007|04:26 pm]
honestly, i was dreading this weekend when I heard about the weather, but despite the cold and the snow it's been great. Last night was Escape from NY and Long Island Iced Teas at Ben's house which was followed by more LITs and Over the Top. Bunch of guys being ridiculous is always a good time. 5 LITs and no puking or hangover is even better.

Didn't feel like driving or sitting in the house, so I went over and watched the Pats game with Ben which was awesome, and I won a bunch of money on the games today so between my gambling today and the windfall check from my car insurance yesterday for overpaying them, X-mas is covered.

Tonight is shaping up to be curling up on the couch with Katy and watching some Doctor Who and Kyle XY, so it doesn't seem to be getting any worse.

Also, my LMHC application is just about ready to go out which is a huge load off of my mind.
